Behind Concrete Walls: The Invisible Labour Behind “Made in Jordan” Clothing

Behind every “Made in Jordan” label is a much more complex story than most of us ever see—one that usually stays hidden behind the walls of industrial zones and the global brands we wear every day.

This upcoming event, hosted by CBRL Amman Institute, offers a rare opportunity to step behind those walls and into the world of Jordan’s largest garment hub: the Al-Hassan Industrial Zone in Irbid.

Over the past three years, Dr Katharina Grueneisl has conducted in-depth ethnographic research as part of the Invisible Workers project, tracing the everyday lives, working conditions, and experiences of migrant workers within global supply chains.

Her talk brings this world into view, moving beyond labels and logos to the human realities, routines, and systems that make global production possible.
